Happy LAST FRIDAY of SCHOOL MCS Community!

The Graduation Stage – A Loving End of Year Reminder

A Presenter at the IMC Conference some of our staff attended in October posed a brilliant question – one that I come back to often when I need a reset of my mindset around education for my children:

“When you close your eyes and envision a child at 18, walking across their high school graduation stage…what is most important to you about that person? Who do you want that to be?”

Though it is a long way off for them, when I think about who I want my kids to be at their High School Graduations, I personally do not start my list with their GPA’s or SAT scores. I immediately think about the very human qualities of kindness, care for others, and curiosity. I want them to have a sense of peace, independence, and courtesy. I want them to love to learn, not learn to jump through hoops to show they can retain information.

At The Montessori Children’s School of Key West, I get to watch each day as my children experience education aligned with who I want to walk across that graduation stage. Today is the end of another year of having the privilege of my kids attending this dreamy little island school, with these magical Montessori Guides & Assistants, among families who share our view of a beautiful approach to learning that is only possible because we as a community continue to make it so.

So while some of us are still quite a few years from that Graduation stage, it is a great end of the year reminder to take a step back and refocus on the long game of what is truly important to you as a parent, and what you did this year to support that. Thank you for being a part of our community and helping to keep our little island school so special.

Sending love and gratitude to all. May your Summer be full of adventure and discovery. Can’t wait to see you in August, to keep building something for all of us to celebrate…
