Happy Friday MCS Community!
It’s Race Weekend!
See you Sunday for our Montessori 5K Run/Walk & Kids Fun Runs!
We can all agree that we teach best by example. Our words do not mean much unless there is congruence in our actions. My favorite aspect of Sunday is our opportunity to “walk the walk” (or “run the run”) and actually show our children what it means to enjoy using our bodies and live a healthy lifestyle. We cannot expect them to do this for themselves without our example showing them the way. So whether you are ready to push the pace running 3.2 miles, or at a level to walk the course and use your body in the sunshine, being out there speaks louder than anything we can say to our kids. Please join us: Montessori Key West 5K Run/Walk & Kids Fun Run
Other Exciting Events & Announcements:
There is so much to do during the holiday season with the family. Here are a few of our favorites:
- Tonight is the Winter Wonderland/Lighted Bike Ride from Truman Amphitheater! Several of our students are performing in a concert at the Amphitheater during this event.
- Tomorrow (Saturday) is the Holiday Parade at 6:30pm down Truman Avenue to Duval St down to Eaton St. Many of our families like to watch right near the start on Truman Ave & White St. Parking can be difficult so plan ahead – parking near school and walking down to Truman is an option 🙂
- Sunday after the 5K is the Sheriff’s Christmas Animal Farm on Stock Island.
- We have several students in the Nutcracker performance happening at Tennessee Williams Theater over the next two weeks. It’s a show not to miss! Nutcracker Key West — KeysTix.com
- Next Sunday, 12/15 The Southernmost Youth Orchestra will have a performance at St Pauls Church at 4:30PM and many of our students will be playing. Please consider coming to support them.

Participants can pick up bibs & shirts today from 3-5PM on campus and save yourself time in the morning on Sunday!
MCS Holiday Candle Distribution
With your help we are coordinating an order of 300+ candles from our MCS Candle Fundraiser Partnership with Deejay Peak and the Key West Candle Company! Candles will be on campus early next week and distribution will take place during drop off/pick up. Deejay recommends if you go to work after drop off to wait to pick yours up when you will be heading home as the candles should not sit in your vehicle in the sun. Speaking of the Key West Candle Company: as a result of this fundraiser Deejay has helped our school raise over $5,000 – we are so grateful for this opportunity and for taking a chance on us to try this new offering of hers. If you see Deejay on campus, please thank her – and if you have a chance to purchase any items from Key West Candle Company in the future to support her business that gives back so heavily to us, please do!
The Holiday Lights Conch Train – Montessori Edition
Please mark your calendars for Thursday, December 12th at 6PM – we’ll meet on the Front Lawn for treats and board the trains on Varela St. Wear your holiday gear (pajamas encouraged!) Tickets are $15 per student & $20 per guest (grown-ups and non-student children.) We reserved an extra train this year, so we are happy to be able to invite grandparents and other family & friends in addition to immediate family. The more the merrier!! This year is also a “Half Tour” – meaning the ride will be 45 mins (instead of 90) to accommodate our younger age group.
Email office@montessorikeywest.com to reserve your spot.
Winter Break Camp
Over our Winter Break, Camp is available for Toddler & Primary. Camp will be 8AM-3:30PM and the cost is $65/day. Registration is first come first serve and space is limited in our Toddler program specifically, so please sign up quickly to secure your space. Weekly Miracle Makers
Oftentimes it feels like our school is powered by Miracles. Miracles large and small happen each week to pull off all that we do here. Those miracles appear in acts of love and kindness and service by parents, children, staff, alumni, community members, and more, and each week we highlight a special one here.
This week’s Miracle Maker is Maria Castillo, Mom of Viviana, who saw our pleas for volunteers for the 5K and coordinated with Key West High School to deliver a full list of high school students willing to help us out on Sunday at the 5K Race! Maria is always willing to help with our events, even as she coordinates her own for Key West Sunsets Basketball (including her upcoming cornhole tournament on December 21! – Cornhole Flyer 2024) They say if you need something done, ask a busy person, so we are grateful for Maria who manages to do more than “her part” even though she is one of our busy people.
