Happy Friday MCS Community!

A huge THANK YOU to all of you for an incredibly successful 5K Fundraiser last weekend.  With your help we raised $17,795 for our Scholarship Fund – a record revenue for this event.  We should be looking at a net scholarship total (after race costs) of almost $15,000 – over 2x what we saw last year for this event.  The Southernmost Runners as our race coordinators made a huge difference in both organization and cost – so if you are able to support that organization (a non-profit like us!) please do so.  They host a race tomorrow you can sign up for here: A Positive Step of Monroe County and you can follow their events here: Key West Southernmost Runners Club | Southernmost running club in America!

For those who attended, we want to hear your feedback.  Please let us know how you thought we did with this event, and if you have ideas of how to improve it in the future we are all ears!  We will specifically be working on the Kids race course and making sure it is more clear in the future.

Finally, we have a long list of Sponsors from this year’s event to thank.  This list is almost completely local businesses, and many are owned and operated by parents of children here at our school.  Please have a look at this list and if you are making choices of what businesses to support, please choose these.  These are actual people in our community who give directly to our school to support our families.  We could not do what we do without this support, and we are so grateful.

There is so much to do during the holiday season with the family.  Here are a few of our favorites:

  • We have several students in the Nutcracker performance happening at Tennessee Williams Theater over the next two weeks.  It’s a show not to miss! Nutcracker Key West — KeysTix.com
  • The Lighted Boat Parade takes place in the Seaport Saturday night – our beloved neighbors are hosting a very cool way to watch it from a boat in the parade!  Check it out:  Key West Events: Upcoming Events in Key West, Florida
  • This Sunday, 12/15 The Southernmost Youth Orchestra will have a performance at St Pauls Church at 4:30PM and many of our students will be playing.  Please consider coming to support them.

Weekly Miracle Makers

Oftentimes it feels like our school is powered by Miracles.  Miracles large and small happen each week to pull off all that we do here.  Those miracles appear in acts of love and kindness and service by parents, children, staff, alumni, community members, and more, and each week we highlight a special one here.

This week’s Miracle Makers are Lara & Anthony Parra, parents of Jeffrey & Leadley, and owners of Sugar Shark Market in Bay Point.  When we placed the ask for help securing fruit for our 5K Fundraiser last weekend Lara and Anthony delivered boxes and boxes of apples, bananas, and oranges as a donation.  What we had leftover was distributed to classrooms for snack and food prep this week, and to our community to enjoy at home.  Thank you Parra family, and everyone be sure to stop in Sugar Shark Market on Bay Point!!
