Happy Friday MCS Community!

We are feeling immense gratitude today for what turned out to be a mostly gentle storm scare here for us.  We appreciate all of your flexibility in the schedule changes for our upcoming events, which are highlighted below.  Mostly, we are reminded how fragile and precious our little island is and how lucky we are to be here every day.  It can all change quickly, as we’ve seen in other parts of the country today, and we are spending today full of gratitude for every little piece of our dreamy island campus.  Today is a great day to go for a walk with your children and soak in the beauty of our time here.

Parent Education Nights

Are you interested in implementing more Montessori practices at home?  Are you curious about tools and language used in the classroom with your children?  Twice a year our Montessori instructors create parent education forums to address the most common questions and discuss your specific issues and topics of interest to you.  We offer childcare for each session and highly encourage you to attend!  It is always a worthwhile use of your time to invest in your education as a parent.  See attached flier for the Toddler Parent Education Night – this is the level of information you can expect from all programs next week.  These are not to be missed!

Elementary Bake Sale…

It’s everyone’s favorite:  Bake Sale days!!  Our first Bake Sale of the year is rescheduled to next week – October 3 & 4 at 2:30PM dismissal on the Front Lawn, hosted by our Elementary programs.  Sign up to bake & sell here (you do not have to be an Elementary family to bake or sell & work/pay hours apply for both): Children’s School: Elementary bake sale 2024 (signupgenius.com).  Bring your cash and invite your local friends to stop by to purchase treats of all kinds.

All School Corporation Meeting…

NEW DATE & TIME:  Thursday, October 10th at 6pm we will hold our first of three Corporation Meetings of the school year. Each parent is a corporation member. This is an opportunity for you as a member to meet with the Board of Directors to learn more about your child’s school, share information and ask questions.  Free childcare will be provided. Each corporation meeting is worth 1 volunteer hour. Please remember to enter your volunteer hours in the work/pay binder.

Camp Over Professional Days October 24 & 25…

At the end of October a group of our core staff is traveling to Atlanta for the International Montessori Council Conference to continue our staff’s education and Montessori offerings.  During these two days we will not have school, but will offer camp for those who would need it.  Camp is available for Toddler, Primary, and Lower Elementary programs (no camp for Upper Elementary or Middle this time.)  Camp will be 8AM-3:30PM and the cost is $65/day.  Registration is first come first serve and space is limited in our Toddler program specifically, so please sign up quickly to secure your space.  Registration form is below.

Weekly Miracle Makers

Oftentimes it feels like our school is powered by Miracles.  Miracles large and small happen each week to pull off all that we do here.  Those miracles appear in acts of love and kindness and service by parents, children, staff, alumni, community members, and more, and each week we highlight a special one here.

This week’s Miracle Maker is Kesha Sargent, mom of Kennydi, Ke’Nario, and Kah’Lio (and 6 others!) who has been delivering our pizza every Friday for Pizza Friday.  Ms. Kesha builds in time to do this for us every Friday around her very busy schedule working full time as a Mother of 9 children, and we love her for it!  Thank you Kesha!
