The Mangroves are already finding their groove. Our class is made up of a group of returning students and new friends and we are all supporting each other as we transition into a new school year. We began establishing our routine from day one to help build a foundation for all of our toddlers to rely on in order to establish a sense of safety and trust. We even survived our first rainy drop off, which can typically throw a toddler into a tale spin, so kudos to all!
The Mangroves have jumped right into a variety of lessons which include hand washing, flower arranging, and mopping the floors. We spent a week peeling and eating bananas at the food preparation table and washing dishes at our dish washing station. When gathering for circle at the end of our work cycle, we have been singing Wheels on the Bus, Open Shut Them, The Itsy Bitsy Spider, and I have Toes, where we name different body parts (toes, hands, cheeks, ect.). The most peaceful part of our day is literally when we sit around the carpet and pass our candle ( battery operated) and sing Candle For Peace. We are taking it as sign for what our toddlers will be able to accomplish this year, working together to create something beautiful.
Starting school is an adjustment, for the whole family, so make sure to give yourself and your family members grace. It is work to transition from a summer schedule to a school routine, some days you feel like a complete success and other days you will just be thankful that people ate and slept. Transitioning doesn’t happen in a day, it is a process, and we are here to support you. We successfully started what is going to be an amazing year….we can feel it! We are so glad to be part of your family’s Montessori journey. “I feel a new beginning coming towards me and I’m running to it with open arms.”
