December Gumbo Limbo Newsletter

“Joy, feeling one’s value, being appreciated and loved by others, feeling useful and capable of production are all factors of enormous value for the human soul”. Maria Montessori

Dear Gumbo Limbo Families,

With December upon us, November seemed to go by so fast. The children are ready to get back into the swing of things after a relaxing autumn break. The Gumbos were busy throughout November with work that focused on mammals, reptiles, fish and birds. They especially enjoyed the food prep lessons this month. Thank you all who brought in and provided ingredients for these lessons. The children measured ingredients for the bread dough and then made the dough. They were also excited to be making butter and spreading it on slices of bread to eat with the other classes during our Harvest Share. We had fun gathering together, giving thanks, and enjoying each other’s company and food (prepared with love, and you could taste it too!). A lot of fun was had by all.

For December we will continue with our November unit study, with living and non-living objects. We also have a Winter theme, including what happens in winter and what animals do during this season. If you have any favorite books on this subject and would like to share, please bring them in. We will take great care and share them at our circle times. We will also be focusing on winter crafts. Please feel free to share your ideas with us.

It is our pleasure to welcome the Keily Family back into our fold! The Gumbos were excited to welcome their friends Piper and Kaitlyn back to the class, finding old friends throughout the school and making new ones! It has been wonderful to have them back!

The first of our Parent Teacher conferences will be taking place this month, which starts Monday 10th. Normally a professional day, we will be having the majority of conferences on that day. An online sign up is available. For the rest of the week 2-3 conferences will be available after school each day. Please feel free to sign up. This is such a good opportunity to find out what your child is busy with in the class and throughout their day, and bring up any concerns or questions that we may be helpful with. Please sign up for this to find the most suitable time for your family.

Our Bake sale was a great success! Thank you all so much for all the yummy baked goods and the beautiful individual hand-made crafts available for sale. A very healthy amount was raised for materials for the class. A very special thank you to all who made, sold, setup, manned, baked, and of course ate for the Gumbo Limbos.

Peace and love,
Ms.Ann and Ms.Pascale
